Lead the effort to accelerate solutions that cut methane—one of the fastest ways to slow warming and deliver immediate benefits for people and the planet.
As the only funder collaborative dedicated exclusively to methane, the Global Methane Hub directs philanthropic capital to the highest-impact opportunities for rapid emissions reductions across energy, agriculture, and waste, where solutions are ready to be deployed today.
“Methane reduction is a triple-win—for the climate, public health, and economies worldwide. The solutions exist. Funding is mobilizing. And what the Global Methane Hub does best is deliver resources to the people and places that need them most.” –Marcelo Mena, CEO, the Global Methane Hub
Methane is a pollutant responsible for nearly half of today's warming. It harms human health, contributes to air pollution, and threatens food, energy, and economic systems.
Methane traps roughly 80 times more heat than CO2 over 20 years but breaks down quickly, making it one of the most powerful levers we have to slow warming within our lifetime.
Methane contributes to ground-level ozone and is often released with other air pollutants. Tackling these emissions can improve air quality, reduce premature deaths, prevent crop loss, and avoid billions of dollars in economic costs, with outsized benefits for frontline communities.
A 35% reduction in methane emissions by 2030 is an essential milestone for keeping 1.5°C within reach and avoiding the most severe climate risks.
Despite its outsized impact on climate, health, and economic systems, methane mitigation receives only about 2% of global climate finance, making it one of the most underinvested, high-return opportunities in climate action today.
What Philanthropic Support Can Make Possible
| ♻️
$100K Waste Fund inclusive waste systems and composting improvements that reduce methane and empower informal waste pickers. |
🌾
$500K Agriculture Strengthen efforts to measure and cut rice methane emissions, improving data quality and guiding farmer-level action. |
⚡
$1M+ Energy Scale regional initiatives that accelerate coal methane reductions by using data to inform and drive policy action. |

The NGOsource Equivalency Determination on File “badge” means that an organization was at one time determined by NGOsource to be equivalent to a U.S. public charity or government instrumentality for a specific funder during a specific period of time. The badge is neither a legal designation nor does it represent a valid determination: it is intended for marketing purposes only.
U.S. grantmakers interested in funding a foreign organization may request an equivalency determination (“ED”) through NGOsource. When a grantmaker requests an ED for an organization that has already been determined equivalent (i.e., is on file in the NGOsource repository), the cost is lower (and the process simpler) than it would be for an organization that does not yet have an ED on file.
