Belém, Brazil – November 10, 2025 — On the opening day of COP30, the Global Methane Hub (GMH) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) announced “Catalyzing Green Growth: A Multi-Sector Strategy for Significant Methane Emissions Abatement,” new partnership to catalyze large-scale methane reduction across the agriculture, energy, and waste sectors in developing countries.
The collaboration was formally launched during a bilateral meeting between GGGI Executive Director Sang-Hyup Kim and GMH CEO Marcelo Mena held in Belem, Brazil.
Under this partnership, GMH and GGGI will implement the initiative with a focus on Mexico, Nigeria, and Senegal, demonstrating scalable models that integrate methane-smart practices into national financial systems and infrastructure investment frameworks.
The initiative will:
“Reducing methane emissions is one of the fastest and most effective ways to slow global warming,” said Marcelo Mena, CEO of the Global Methane Hub. “This partnership leverages GGGI’s technical and financial expertise to translate high-level pledges into concrete, investment-ready projects.”
Sang-Hyup Kim, executive director of GGGI, added: “Our collaboration with GMH brings together AI, innovation, and finance to help developing countries unlock methane abatement opportunities while creating jobs and building resilience. This partnership exemplifies how targeted climate finance can deliver measurable, cross-sectoral impact.”
Methane, a greenhouse gas over 80 times more potent than CO₂ over a 20-year period, accounts for about one-third of current global warming. The GGGI–GMH partnership aligns with the Global Methane Pledge and supports participating countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
The new initiative builds on previous collaboration between GGGI and GMH, including the first phase of methane mitigation work in Senegal, and marks a major step toward embedding methane reduction into sustainable finance systems and national development strategies.
